It can be difficult to find indoor recreational activities for family to keep the kids entertained. During the summer holidays, it’s common to spend days on the beach or at the park. But on those typical British rainy days or days you’d rather stay in the shade, you might be looking for some indoor activities to try. Keep reading to find out our top 5 indoor activities!
Indoor recreational activities for family
Home Activities
Sometimes it’s easier (and cheaper) to stay at home – but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! There are plenty of activities you can do at home to keep the whole family entertained.
If the kids are bouncing off the walls and need to release some energy, try making an indoor obstacle course. It’s a fun way to get everyone moving and to get creative when you’re building it. Indoor scavenger hunts are another great way to release some energy – you can even include some maths and word puzzles to keep the kids’ brains working while they’re away from school. Or you could simply spend some time playing board games together, after all, who doesn’t love a good board game? Even the family dinner can be turned into a fun activity. Get the kids involved in cooking or baking – it’s enjoyable and teaches valuable skills (just make sure the kids help with the washing up, too!).
Complete an escape room
Think the idea of a scavenger hunt sounds fun but not sure about having one at home? TimberVault has you covered! Our escape rooms are the perfect combination of searching for and solving puzzles. You’ll need to work as a team, recognising each others’ strengths and encouraging each other. Choose from our six exciting escape rooms:
All of our escape rooms are perfect for groups of 2-6, making them the ideal indoor recreational activities for family. Each escape room is suitable for people aged 10+, so this is something for slightly older children. Think you’re up for the challenge? Book a 60-minute escape room for you and your family online!
Visit the cinema or theatre
You’re sure to find a family-friendly film at the cinema during the summer holidays, so this could be a fun way to spend the afternoon. This could be a good activity for those dull days, or even the hotter ones if you’re keen to take advantage of the cinema’s air-con. Get your favourite snacks and popcorn together, sit back and enjoy! A local theatre might even have a family-friendly production running – whether it’s a musical, pantomime, or comedy, this can be a great day out.
Try out axe-throwing
If you’re looking for a more unique activity, you should consider trying out axe-throwing. It’s becoming increasingly popular and, with TimberVault being right here in Plymouth, there’s nothing stopping you from giving it a go! Bring out your family’s competitive side and see who has a natural talent in one of our axe-throwing lanes. You have the choice between a standard lane or an interactive lane (Champ Throw) which uses digital technology to provide an even more unique experience. Our standard lanes are suitable for people aged 10+ and up to 6 people (5 for Champ Throw). Again, this is one for slightly older children. You’ll have a 75-minute session, including a 60-minute tutorial from one of our Axemasters. Book a lane for your family here!
Go for a meal
